Academic Unit of Surgical & Perioperative Medicine - Faculties
FACULTY OF PERIOPERATIVE CARE
The Faculty of Perioperative Care was developed in recognition of the evolving and increasingly important role that Surgical Care Practitioners (SCPs) and Surgical First Assistants (SFAs) play as part of the surgical team.
The Faculty is available to all perioperative practitioners, including trainees, such as: Surgical Care Practitioners; Surgical First Assistants; and all those with similar titles involved in the delivery of high quality surgical care.
Conferences explore current issues such as ligation, changing legal framework on consent, boundaries of practice, team work and the evolving roles of the surgical team. The conference is annual and has attracted > 120 candidates in 2018. The faculty is a forum in which the different members of the surgical team can meet and discuss the changing environment of surgical practice.
FACULTY OF SURGICAL TRAINERS
The Faculty of Surgical Trainers is a venture set up by The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh to promote and enhance the role of the surgical trainer. This was the first faculty of its type (in the UK) supporting and develop surgeons in their role as surgical trainers. Its aim to increase the profile and recognition of surgical education and training and disseminate the message that excellent surgical training means excellent and safe patient care.
